Police destroy ‘suspicious’ package on Lower Queen Anne

Seattle police bomb-squad members blew up a suspicious package found under a tree in Lower Queen Anne on Tuesday night.

Officers cordoned off the area around West Olympic Place and First Avenue West after a caller reported the package at about 4 p.m, spokeswoman Renee Witt said. The police department’s arson and bomb unit checked the surrounding area but didn’t find anything else suspicious.

“It’s pretty much a done deal,” Witt said Wednesday afternoon. She did not know what was inside the package.

The area was cleared by about 8 p.m. Tuesday, she said.
